Servicing

Why Service Your Evaporative Cooler?
Regular servicing keeps your system running efficiently, improves the air quality in your home, and helps avoid costly breakdowns during hot weather.
Key benefits of an annual service:
• Cleaner, healthier air – removes dust, pollen, mould and debris that can build up in the pads and unit
• Better cooling performance and lower running costs
• Longer lifespan for the motor, pump and pads
• Early detection of leaks, blockages or worn parts
• Peace of mind before the summer heat arrives
Neglected systems can develop mould in the filter pads and water tray. When the unit runs, these spores can be blown through the ducts into your living areas. Regular cleaning and disinfection significantly reduces this risk and keeps the air fresher.
What’s Included in Our Evaporative Cooling Service
A standard service with TLC Plumbing Solutions typically includes:
• Thorough cleaning and disinfection of the water tray and unit
• Inspection and cleaning (or replacement recommendation) of the filter pads
• Check of the water pump, float valve and distribution system
• Inspection of the fan motor and belts
• Check for leaks, blockages and proper drainage
• Overall performance test
A standard service usually takes around 40 minutes.
Signs Your Evaporative Cooler Needs Attention
• Musty or unpleasant smell when the unit is running
• Reduced airflow or weaker cooling
• Water leaking onto the roof or into the ceiling
• Unusual noises from the motor or pump
• Visible dirt or mould on the pads
• System hasn’t been serviced in the last 12 months
If you notice any of these, it’s best to book a service before the hottest days of summer.

Why Replace Filter Pads?
Filter pads (also called cooling pads) sit outside in all weather. Over time they collect dirt, dust and mould that becomes embedded in the material. Once this happens it is almost impossible to clean them thoroughly.
Old or mouldy pads:
• Reduce cooling efficiency
• Can cause musty smells throughout the house
• Allow mould spores to enter the air stream
We recommend inspecting the pads every service and replacing them when they show signs of deterioration (usually every 4–8years depending on water quality and usage).
